A Quiver in the Heart

from OPHELIA album by Angeline Morrison

/

about

The heart quivers at the sight of the beloved with their new love, the one that you have been replaced by... and the cold familiar feeling descends. I like to think of this song as influenced by my love of the Phil Spector girl bands. One day I'll record a special Wall of Sound arrangement...

lyrics

I see you in the doorway, and in the crowds across the room,
All evening long I seek your face, a candle in the gloom.
If I put my arms around you, would you dry my tears?
You're seven steps away from me, it might as well be years.

I see you both together, without a space between,
And think about forever, and whatever might have been.
If I put my arms around you, would you change your mind?
You're seven steps away from me, and I am left behind.

I walk past you smiling, disguise my tears,
Breathing - keep breathing - disguise my tears.

You have set my heart a-quiver, deep within a tiny flame
Ignites the question whether our journey was in vain.
If I put my arms around you, would it ease this aching burn?
You're seven steps away from me. I don't know where to turn.

about

Angeline Morrison and The Ambassadors of Sorrow

"Bewitching and otherworldly... Morrison's voice is eerily confiding, strangely present, insistent even at its quietest" Folk Radio UK.

Believing in the beauty of sad songs, weaving folk, soul and beat sounds of the '60s into a tapestry of the human heart. Homespun sounds that reside in a nostalgic universe.

"Dark, unsettling folk that verges on the hymnal" BBC Introducing.
