I Close My Arms to You

from OPHELIA album by Angeline Morrison

/

about

A moment of resolution, in the aftermath of a tainted embrace. However, resolution in itself is not enough - for the ghost of the tainted embrace is determined, and will slither through all the cracks. I wanted to use the archaic expression to 'dought', meaning to extinguish, a light. I like the way an unexpected archaic word can encourage the mind to dance with time and chronology.

lyrics

I close my arms to you. I have closed my mind.
I dought my light for you, for the future is unkind.
I close my arms to you. I have closed my mind.
I dought my light for you, for the future is unkind.

O the future is unkind - O, the past!
O the future is unkind (O the future).
O the future is unkind - O, the past!
O the future is unkind.
O I cannot clean you from my eyes,
Your afterimage stains my eye, no matter how hard I try.
O I cannot clean you from my eyes,
Your afterimage taints my eye, no matter how hard I try.

Come me my love, my Love,
Come be my shadow and my sun.
The shadows gather as the light grows dim,
And all the mysteries are one.

When the vessel it did crack, my love,
O the night was most ill-starred
And I found I could not rest, my love,
till I'd collected every shard.

Angeline Morrison and The Ambassadors of Sorrow

"Bewitching and otherworldly... Morrison's voice is eerily confiding, strangely present, insistent even at its quietest" Folk Radio UK.

Believing in the beauty of sad songs, weaving folk, soul and beat sounds of the '60s into a tapestry of the human heart. Homespun sounds that reside in a nostalgic universe.

"Dark, unsettling folk that verges on the hymnal" BBC Introducing.
